Some Dark, Haunting, yet Brilliant Albums for the Discerning Gentleman

Deeply dark and triumphant, bright, and also miserable as eastern rain, all at the same time. This music sends you on a journey, with unspoken or illegible but equally beautiful journeys within those. Equip yourself to listen on long-play and enjoy the breeze as you burn.

Favorite track: dôlh.

This work is so many shades of human at once. The dark twisted, masculine energy of ambient black-metal and industrial whines, spin and desiccate, to become an almost all-encompassing scope of this “vibe” and this “state of mind”. We are crushed, thrown, only to explode and find our particles shimmer like glass in the absolute coldness of space, and twinkle like chimes in the breeze of cosmic rays. Amazing work. Beautifully arranged. Would like to thank the worker and artist who took the moniker personally for alluring me toward encouragement.

“Monarch of Dark Matter” – by Palus Somni

Straight out of the bag, and less than a full second in, to the first track on this twisted release screams to the listener in his or her own language that they must sit up and take note of the complex titanium passageways. If this was a planet we’d see in the bleak solar system that includes Deathspell Omega, our “Monarch” sits ominously on the outer reaches, unafraid to die cold, but keeping the momentum brewing non-stop to spite death in the face. Even if it goes somewhat slow, the strings achieve a restful resonance, this is not an album you can trust to lullaby to you.

Verdict: Keep Watch
