This is important:
I asked my mate once after we went to Orthodox Church why we’re so naturally attracted to the darkness that always ends up swallowing us and ruining us even though whatever it is, feels so satisfying and “right” at the time.
No matter how long even even the best of such emotions last and so much more impressive to our senses than anything else, we wake up in the mire eventually, and that feeling of emptiness and filth can remain indefinite.
His answer continues to interest and astound me:
“That’s how it is, and should be.”
Freedom isn’t meant to be comforting, or having the ability to do as you want. It’s difficult because it’s meant to be, because it’s what’s best for us.
The teachings of Christ on this matter, are as true now as they were back then, and since the beginning of existence. True freedom isn’t being surrounded or immersed in indulgences or pleasures, It’s about being untangled from these things, even good material things, even the best of things or the best of relationships with others.
It is often a hard, tough road that many stumble or give up on walking or climbing.
But that is true freedom, however counterintuitive it may at times seem, even in your heart. The freedom from mires and traps of life, and a return home, to the Source, and that’s what it has always been since there have been holy men, saints, Christ and God.
🙏
