ELDEN RING (PC) STARTUP BUG (FIXED!!)

Such Mystique!!

Blog Journal: Elden Ring on PC, FIRST IMPRESSIONS

After a certain game was hyped to oblivion back in 2077, I decided to keep clear away from any that might be building, behind this. I have an active imagination, and having a somewhat pretentious disposition, I only started watching the cinematic trailers as I was downloading it (At 12AM the night it came out, of course). I rejected even watching any game-play trailers especially.

Why? Because games like this are ubiquitously drenched in hype, since the mere concept emerges in the developers’ mind as a small itch. Hype, then, and certain cherry-picked cinematic trailers, that show nothing of the game’s nature are what most video game trailers are, almost by rule.

THE OTHER TYPE OF TRAILER
The other type, (the kind with actual game being played), I’m told aren’t as popular as years ago. Not that they aren’t abundant, but they got my skipping-over too.
I know what I like, and that’s Dark Souls (1&3 specifically). That’s what i knew about it from trailers i semi-accidentally watched: Dark Souls. Horse. Open world. Fresh, crisp aesthetic… Of course I would be getting this game. I knew it from I heard who was making it, and who had helped write the lore.. I knew first of all, if the game had any flaws they wouldn’t be shown in a game-play trailer. Secondly, the experience of a game, of subtle changes to one that heavily relies on it’s combat mechanics, is something that needs held, felt and experienced. With such an approach, the changes are all-but totally lost, with even watching it being played in-front of me.

That sounds disparaging toward game trailers, but I don’t mean it like that. It’s simply an innate desire to experience this as it were “carte blanche“.

HUGE FAN OF DARK SOULS
So since i discovered Dark Souls in 2015/16, it has remained my favorite franchise. A paragraph of words won’t really do my obsession full justice, but i do hope to impart a glimpse of why i feel this way. Shortly listed: The Vibe, the aesthetic, the combat, the reliance on skill rather than leveling up, everything lumped together to create a feeling I cant really get emulated anywhere else, (despite maybe closely on the Witcher 3, but even that doesn’t fully compare)

The satisfaction is real

START-UP CRASH-BUG FIXED!!
On the first few days since purchase, I felt cheated, it seemed the game would only let me play it, when IT wanted to be played. The screen went black, the mouse cursor changed shape, “Bandi Namco” fades in, I get excited! Game crashes… I scour the internet watching vid after vid and reading list after list on forums searching for help. I had removed all unnecessary software, disabled overlay, updated drivers, changed preferences on the ELDENRING.exe file itself. None of these came to fruition.

Then along came a man, who suggested “have you tried it in windowed mode?” So I opened the preferences on the game, on Steam, and typed in “-windowed” into the bottom box. Some might feel foolish, but all i felt was relief as it works perfectly from then on.

Rather than give they guy a medal I made him a present on photoshop.

I don’t know if he likes it haa-haa
