When I wake, upon the morning,
When the light of sun is dawning,
There I pull, from rest, a blessing,
And steady my aim, for the day’s due testing.
When I wake, and storms are pouring,
Even then, I often feel your adoring,
Grace, although the storms are wild,
I gather with those, with temperaments mild.
Bless the light, the light of all lights,
Bless it still, when it’s beyond sight,
For I know the clouds may downpour,
Your water we rely on, evermore.
When I wake, this light of blessing,
I wake by grace, my tongue confessing,
Through the test, when my friends leave me,
Your love toward me, is not deceiving.
Yes I believe you when you speak,
And when I turn the other cheek,
Only for wicked blows to receive,
I stand, full sure, for I believe.
Heaven will come and snatch us up,
Though the grasp may be mild or rough,
I love the promise, that though my flesh will end,
From here to eternity, Christ, be my friend.
